Julio's Doing a Triathlon?!?!
WELCOME TO MY PLEDGE PAGE!!
Discover and become a better person. Discover - ...What I can accomplish. ...How I can help others. ...How great it feels. And become a better person. So, why am I doing this? About two months ago, I received a brochure in the mail and was captivated by the thought of participating in an Olympic length triathlon. The triathlon involves swimming 1.5 km, biking 40 km, and running 10 km - and I've never swum that much, ridden that long, or run that far. Imagine doing it all back to back. And raise money for what appeares to be a very good cause. I went to the first meeting, and they explained how it all works. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, through its Team in Training program, provides the training. In return, you raise money to help fight blood related cancers. Adam, the LLS fundraising coordinator also mentioned that once you start your campaign drive, you’ll find people coming up to you and telling you about a family member or friend who has or had one of these diseases. Later that night, after the meeting, I went to my mother’s to get my hair cut. Most of you know that my mom is the best beautician in town; hence, she always cuts my hair - for free. I had not told my mom about the triathlon, when she starts telling me that the manicurist that works with her is very, very upset. Her son-in-law, who’s in his 50’s was just diagnosed with Leukemia. What horrible news. I felt very bad for her; I don’t really know her son-in-law. I also felt a strong sense of purpose - that what I was doing can and does make a difference. This news gave me that last bit of motivation I needed to go for the triathlon. So what is the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? The Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. The leukemia death rate for children in the United States has declined 61 percent over the last three decades. Despite this decline, leukemia remains a leading cause of death among children under age 15. So now you know where your hard earned money is going. And seventy five percent of every dollar donated to LLS goes to research and to the patients and their family. All that’s left to say now is that I need your support! My two personal goals – complete the triathlon and raise $2,500 for LLS. So please go right now to the donor page and give generously to LLS and help fight blood-related cancers. Thanks. I’ll keep you updated. PS: Please, don't forget to sign the guestbook. |
